Philippians 2:2 “Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.”
Thank you to the dedicated, energetic team who gathered at Christ Church Cemetery on Saturday, May 1st, and toiled for three hours straightening headstones! This is a project of the recently formed Cemetery Committee, chaired by John D. Wetmore.
A huge shoutout to everyone involved! The crew members at the cemetery were: Armin Hackelsperger, Tammy & Bruce Dunbar, Bob Kee, Andrew Brown, Richard Wetmore, Colden Wetmore, Wayne Antworth, Norman Acott, the Rev. Canon Walter Williams, Stephen Hall, Jon Tait, and John Wetmore. Valerie Wetmore brought coffee and cookies for the 10 am coffee break! Many thanks go to Gordon Acott and Acott Construction for donating the crushed rock that was used to stabilize the headstone bases.
Chair John Wetmore described the scope of the work:
“Tilted stones and grave markers are being straightened. The bases of stones that have been toppled are being straightened and leveled. The stones will be stood back up on the bases later when the ground is dry enough to support a tractor and loader. This is just the beginning. The work is ongoing and will take some time.
A future step will be to remove the lichen buildup from many of the stones. This is not difficult, but it is time consuming. A soft brush, plenty of water and many hands are all that are needed. (We will be looking for more volunteers to help!)
We are scheduled to be there again Saturday morning, May 8 beginning at 9 am.”
God bless you all for your faithful service!
